Overview of Organization
The Vermont Cancer Support Network (VCSN) improves the quality of life for Vermonters living with cancer by providing programs of support, information, education, and celebration; maintaining a comprehensive list of support resources; and, working with other cancer-related organizations to reduce the burden of cancer on Vermonters
Mission Area: Healthcare and/or Disease Related (excluding hospitals)

Position Overview
The VCSN Board will:
-
determine the mission and purposes of the organization;
-
select and evaluate the performance of the Executive Director;
-
conduct strategic and organizational planning;
-
ensure strong fiduciary oversight and financial management;
-
assist with resource development, as needed;
-
approve and monitor the organization’s programs and services;
-
enhance the organization’s public image;
-
and, assess its own performance as the governing body of the organization.
Each individual board member is expected to:
-
follow the organization’s by-laws, policies, procedures and board resolutions;
-
disclose potential conflicts before meetings and actual conflicts during meetings;
-
maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of the organization;
-
know the organization’s mission, policies, programs and needs;
-
faithfully read and understand the organization’s financial statements;
-
serve as active ambassadors for the organization;
-
leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve the organization’s mission;
-
and prepare for, attend and conscientiously participate in quarterly board meetings.
