The Youth Prevention Specialist is responsible for providing trauma informed, survivor centered, and culturally sensitive education programming in schools, and training for community partners throughout Addison County and the Town of Rochester. The Youth Prevention Specialist works collaboratively with all Atria Collective staff, and reports to the Director of Education and Prevention. Duties and Responsibilities
· Inclusive Education and Training Services
o Provide gender-based violence prevention educational programming to Addison County schools and childcare centers with a focus on elementary schools.
o Collaborate with and facilitate training for community partners.
o Create educational programs that address the needs of diverse audiences.
o Establish and maintain relationships with educational institutions and community partners.
o Support Education Team in ensuring that staff stay abreast of current research and best practice related to Education/Prevention and working with youth.
· Survivor-Centered Advocacy Services
o Provide trauma-informed, survivor-centered, and culturally sensitive advocacy as needed to survivors and those affected by dating, domestic, sexual violence and stalking while in educational setting to students, teachers, staff, parents/caregivers, and community members.
o Create space that allows youth to safely express emotions and/or ask for help.
o Provide reliable and consistent direct service office and hotline coverage during normal business hours.
o Provide reliable and consistent direct service as staff back-up coverage to after-hours crisis hotline.
· Collective Duties and Responsibilities
o Participate in weekly Atria Collective staff meetings.
o Attend grantor, community, coalition, staff meetings, trainings, conferences as needed.
o Maintain appropriate education and advocacy statistics and meet required data entry deadlines.
o Assist with outreach and special events as needed.
o Contribute to grant reporting and grant writing as assigned by the Director of Education and Prevention and the Direction of Advocacy Services.
o Create and support the development of online educational information for youth and adults online, including the Atria Collective website and social media platforms.
o Perform other agency related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
· Minimum Qualifications
o An intersectional feminist understanding of gender justice issues, specifically those of dating, domestic, sexual and violence, and stalking.
o Commitment to uphold strict confidentiality policies.
o A strength-based, non-judgmental approach to supporting all survivors.
o Ability to engage youth using a strength-based and culturally sensitive perspective and approach.
o Crisis intervention and peer support experience.
o Creative analytical person with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
o Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work independently and as a team.
o Quickly adaptable to changing ideas, responsibilities, expectations, and scheduling as related to program needs.
o Previous domestic and/or sexual violence employment or volunteer experience.
o BA or BS in related field or equivalent experience (each 6 months of relevant full-time experience can be substituted for a semester of full-time college work).
o Personal vehicle, valid driver’s license, and vehicle insurance required.
· Desirable Qualifications
o Two years’ experience teaching in educational or community settings.
o Understanding of, and experience working with, local community resources.
o Experience in program evaluation.
