The Executive Director (ED) is the Chief Executive Officer of the Center for Health and Learning, a remote 501c3 nonprofit registered in Vermont. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and is the chief representative of the Center. The ED is responsible for the organization’s leadership, consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives, and works in partnership in a leadership team with the Director of Operations.

The ED provides thought leadership for the organization, along with a strong orientation towards advancing and scaling best practices that improve outcomes in mental, emotional, and social health and resilience in individuals, families, and communities. This work is informed by research and evaluation and innovative approaches to practice improvement and carried out through collaborative leadership and a collective impact approach. The organization has established a strong basis of reputability in the field.

The Executive Director will demonstrate a strong background in
strategic and partnership development, project management, and an interest in establishing and growing CHL’s online E-Commerce to advance the work and mission of the organization. Responsible for planning, implementing, and supervising all program s and activities. This position is becoming available because our long-serving Executive Director has decided to devote her energy and efforts to developing and marketing the Umatter suite of products and training to a national audience. As such, she will remain a member of the CHL team, taking on a new and focused role.

1) Organization Mission and Strategy Development (40%):

● Works with board and staff to ensure the mission is fulfilled through strategic planning, program development, fundraising, and community outreach.
● Strategic planning to ensure that CHL can successfully fulfill its mission in the future.
● Works with staff to develop big ideas that serve as funding magnets.
● Provides input on the design of training and instructional strategies, curriculum, and other program services.
● Provides technical quality control over the implementation of CHL’s programs to ensure that the organization achieves its mission.
● Responsible for strengthening CHL’s image and visibility by being active and visible in the field, working closely with other professionals and civic and private organizations, and representing CHL at regional and national meetings and conferences.
● Explores strategic partnerships to strengthen fundraising efforts.

2) Financial Performance and Viability (20%):

● Works closely with Operations staff to develop budgets and cultivate resources to ensure the organization’s financial health.
● Submits a draft annual budget to the Board for its approval.
● Engages in sound fiscal management, including operating within the approved budget, ensuring maximum resource utilization, and providing the Board with monthly financial statements.
● Submits an annual development plan that includes target goals, promising fundraising opportunities (government, foundation, and corporate), and a plan of action with the projected timeline.
● Reviews grant proposals and supports the Director of Development in identifying appropriate funding opportunities
● Oversees implementation of the development plan, working closely with the Director of Development and Communications and with other staff.

3) Organization Operations (20%): Works closely with the Director of Operations to allocate organizational resources to ensure that the organization’s operations are appropriate.
● Has ultimate responsibility for effectively administrating CHL’s operations and human resources.
● Responsible for hiring, supervising and retaining competent, qualified staff.
● Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization.

4) Board Relations (20%): Works with Board to fulfill the organization’s mission.
● Responsible for leading CHL in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as adopted by the Board of Directors.
● Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and make informed decisions related to organizational oversight, fiscal resources, and policy.
● Responsible for ensuring the scheduling, hosting, and provision of logistical support for Board meetings and carrying out its work for the Board.

Qualifications
Candidates with all or most of the following qualifications will be considered well-suited for this position:
● Master’s degree in a related field
● At least five years of experience in a nonprofit executive management position
● Experience in developing mental health, substance misuse, or suicide prevention programming, through instructional technology
● Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
● Demonstrated organizational skills and knowledge of project management principles.
● A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial health.
● Ability to cultivate strategic partnerships to further the quality, breadth, and reach of CHL offerings.
● Ability to think creatively and strategically to develop successful organizational strategies and goals
● Ability to establish and implement plans, policies, and procedures that lead to attaining organizational goals and objectives
● Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage and develop a consensus with a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.
● Financial understanding concerning financial documents
● Proficient with computer technology and social media
● Strong verbal and written communication skills.
