SINGLE ADULT SHELTER PART-TIME & FULL-TIME AWAKE OVERNIGHT/EVENING STAFF
COTS is currently recruiting for dynamic, organized individuals who are committed to our mission in our emergency Single Adult Shelter, a 36-bed shelter for men and women, ages 18 and older located in Burlington. The Waystation operates 7 nights a week from 5pm to 8am, 365 days a year.

The primary responsibilities of Shelter Staff are to assure the safety and well being of persons and property in the shelter; to support shelter residents in their search for permanent housing; to sign in and orient residents to shelter life; and to enforce the applicable rules and policies. Shelter Staff maintain a safe and supportive environment while building trusting relationships with individuals experiencing homelessness.

We have two openings for this role, one Part-time and one Full-Time.

The schedule for the full-time position is: 33 hrs/week, Thursday – Sunday 12:00am – 8:00am.

The schedule for the part-time position is: 24 hrs/week, Thurs & Fri 5:00pm – 12:00am, Sat & Sun 5:00pm – 9:00pm.

Candidates must be able to work during these scheduled hours.

The ability to work independently and as well as part of a committed team is necessary. Strong communication, emotional competence, sense of fairness and human dignity, and crisis management skills are required. Experience with trauma informed practice, restorative justice, and/or homeless direct service preferred.

All positions require a commitment to the COTS mission: Advocating for long-term solutions to end homelessness and provide emergency shelter, housing resource services, and long-term housing for Vermonters who are experiencing homelessness or are marginally housed.
