Website Committee on Temporary Shelter (COTS)

COTS is recruiting for a dynamic, organized individual to serve as Peer Support Staff in our daytime drop-in program for single adults who are homeless or at risk of losing their homes.  This position provides consistent, on-going support to clients by upholding a safe and positive program environment; coordinates and facilitates the noontime meal; and creates opportunities for social engagement through informal activities (i.e. garden project, softball games) and formal groups (i.e. job support, nutrition).

The position also performs preliminary assessment of client basic needs and priorities; makes appropriate referrals as needed; assists clients in advocating for their needs and accessing community resources; provides an outlet for clients to express themselves and their frustrations and model productive communication; supports clients in the transition from homelessness to housing.

Bachelor’s degree plus one to three years of direct service experience working with the homeless population preferred.  Strong communication; ability to set clear limits, model positive and constructive behavior; problem solve; and deescalate crises also required.  Experience with computer systems and databases required and Trauma Informed and/or Motivational Interviewing, preferred.  Ability to work independently and as a positive member of a cooperative team and a commitment to the COTS mission required.
