Website Flavors Hook Kids Vermont
Flavors Hook Kids Vermont (FHKVT) is seeking two grassroots organizers for the Northern and Southern part of the State to mobilize support for eliminating the sale of all flavored and menthol tobacco products. This position is part-time, approximately 20-25 hours per week, and likely to run 12-24 mos.
You will work as an independent contractor, working largely remote, with some in-person attendance required for field recruitment and campaign events.
Duties and Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
- Identify, inform, and organize a strong support network of community opinion leaders, activists, and interest groups that represent a broad coalition of Southern Vermonters;
- Reengage our current supporters with reflection and sensitivity to their ability to fulfill CTAs and meeting campaign needs;
- Develop information and a central message for policymakers in targeted House and Senate districts through a variety of communication (in-person meetings, events, phone, and email);
- Initiate and execute contact efforts through several forms of media (social media outreach, meetings, town halls, canvassing, etc.) to maintain a strong campaign presence;
- Create relationships and partnerships with stakeholders in the community and specific demographics that are most impacted by the industry such as youth, LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and more;
Required Skills, Abilities, and Experience:
- Passion for issue;
- Experience as a field organizer preferred, but not required (applicants with rural organizing or digital/remote organizing experience are especially encouraged to apply);
- Extensive relationship-building and volunteer management experience;
- Ability to create a sense of urgency
- Working knowledge of and experience with VAN (desired, but not required)
- Strong communications and organizational skills, ability to work independently, and manage multiple tasks
- Experience organizing and executing successful, engaging trainings
- Deadline and results-driven leader
- Ability to work effectively with regional and local leaders
- Access to reliable transportation
