Status: Part time, Non Exempt (Approx. 10 hours/week; During camp sessions: Approx. 40 hours/week – see dates below)

The Humane Education Program Coordinator oversees and implements HSCC’s youth education programs: Camp Paw Paw, Animal Welfare Warriors, and Humane Heroes Workshops. They will focus on developing a rich and age-appropriate curriculum that results in a robust learning and fun experience for students/campers. They will develop a ‘portable curricula’ that educators can take off site to surrounding town’s recreation departments, after-school programs, and other regional partners. The position also assists Camp Paw Paw counselors during the program planning week and while camp is in session, responding to counselors, students, parents, scholarship recipients, etc.

 

2025 Program Dates:

Animal Welfare Warriors: June 23rd – June 27th, 2025
Camp Paw Paw: July 7th – August 15th, 2025

 

Essential Functions

Develop a rich curriculum for successful delivery to students that integrates animal welfare issues with STEM, STEAM and Common Core science benchmarks
Ensure instructional materials support and align with desired educational outcomes
Hire, train, and manage seasonal camp counselors (1 Head Counselor, 1 Assistant Camp Counselor, and 1-2 Camp Paw Paw Counselors)
Manage program and scholarship application process, registration, and waitlists
Manage communication with guardians
With the assistance of the Communications Manager, advertise and promote program and scholarship applications
Organize daily in-classroom and out-of-classroom practices, routines and schedules
Research and retain guest speakers for camp sessions
Develop and plan after-school and school vacation age-appropriate programs for students
Periodically observe students/campers and note any learning deficiencies, comprehension, or resultant behavioral issues and tracking
Manage supply ordering and vendor contracts for camp needs
Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

Experience in educational program/curriculum design and implementation
Minimum 2 years experience working in education
Valid educator license strongly preferred
Experience and skills in working with children
Adept and flexible multi-tasking abilities and exemplary organizational skills
Interest in animals and animal welfare
Upbeat, friendly, and outgoing personality
Highly self-motivated and able to work independently
Ability to work well under pressure and to deal with challenges quickly, decisively, and appropriately
Willingness to work as a team member, pitch in as needed, and have fun
