About Hyperbaric Vermont
Formed in 2017, Hyperbaric Vermont is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to raise awareness of the benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy and to make this life-changing treatment accessible.
We do this by providing hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) to patients at our treatment facilities in Montpelier and South Burlington, VT, and by supporting other physicians/organizations with a similar vision to do so through our affiliated treatment centers. Hyperbaric Vermont offers education to the public and outreach to community and health care organizations about the benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. We provide training, support and resources to affiliated and independently owned treatment centers and physicians and serve as a model for other organizations to do so in other areas. As HBOT is generally not covered by insurance in the US, we strive to make this life-changing treatment financially accessible to those who need it.
As Hyperbaric Vermont builds out its team and programs and works to create long-term sustainability the organization will have these focus areas:
Providing Affordable HBOT: Continuing to provide affordable HBOT at its existing treatment centers in Montpelier and South Burlington VT.
Provider Training and Certification: Continuing the work of training physicians and other providers interested in offering affordable HBOT to their patients/clients, review and revise standards as needed, develop a comprehensive curriculum for certification.
Affiliate Program: Through our Provider Trainings, expand its existing Affiliate Network to include regional providers interested in making affordable HBOT available throughout Vermont and its neighboring environs. We do this with the understanding that HBOT must be readily and locally available in order to be accessible to those with limited resources and capacity to travel and that this is a cooperative rather than a competitive endeavor.
Education and Outreach: Continuing the work of Hyperbaric Vermont, provide education through presenting/exhibiting at health conferences and other related events, and developing relationships with organizations, local businesses and support services that provide care to our patient populations to create and increase awareness of HBOT and its clinical applications.
Serving as a Model: Continuing the work of consulting with, training and supporting others interested in making affordable HBOT available in regions outside of Vermont.
About the Opportunity
The first‐ever Executive Director of Hyperbaric Vermont has an exciting opportunity to join a committed team of directors and staff while working to scale a dynamic and growing organization with the potential to change the healthcare environment in Vermont and the lives of thousands of people dealing with the effects of trauma, resistant infections, neurological and autoimmune disorders and other chronic degenerative and inflammatory diseases for which there are often few viable treatment options.
Reporting to an active and engaged Board of Directors and working with the Medical Director, the Executive Director will have the opportunity to develop and lead Hyperbaric Vermont’s programs (Patient Care, Development and Marketing, Training and Certification, and Education and Outreach). Working with its board and staff, Hyperbaric Vermont will benefit from the Executive Director’s leadership of a strategic planning process, plan for stakeholder engagement, and fundraising plan.
Key areas of responsibility include the following:
Build the Organization
The Executive Director will be responsible for the overall management of Hyperbaric Vermont. This involves collaborating with the board and Medical Director to establish sound financial policies and procedures, and to generate abundant financial resources for the organization. The ED will have final responsibility for purchasing, payroll, accounting systems, and financial and progress reporting and will be responsible for fundraising, including maintaining current sources of fundraising, cultivating new donors and identifying and pursuing new grant opportunities.
As leader of the organization’s staff, the ED will collaborate with the board, Medical Director and staff to establish and maintain healthy and legally sound people policies. With the assistance of the staff and Medical Director, the ED will recruit, select and train employees and will create opportunities for HV and its employees to grow and thrive.
The ED will be responsible for day-to-day operations of our 2 treatment facilities and will ensure effective communication throughout the organization through in-person interaction, email, conference calls, electronic team meetings, electronic and in-person board meetings.
The Executive Director for Hyperbaric Vermont is a confident, experienced leader who drives progress through a collaborative and inclusive style. They are a creative problem solver with a positive attitude and sense of humor who brings an entrepreneurial and holistic mindset, leading from a future‐oriented perspective to implement and build systems to achieve our mission. A seasoned non‐profit manager, the ED brings the broad skillset required for this organization: financial management, people management, board development, vision and strategic planning and execution, and an external orientation to manifest the mission of Hyperbaric Vermont and grow its referral and donor network.
Exceptional financial management skills are a must, with strong accountability for both expenses and revenue streams. The Executive Director must have a demonstrated ability to oversee the implementation of Hyperbaric Vermont’s financial and accounting policies and procedures to ensure reliable financial reporting for management, planning, and governance purposes. The ED will manage and grow revenue streams and will lead the expansion and creation of revenue‐generating programs and fundraising efforts. An understanding of both non‐profit and for‐profit financial management is strongly preferred.
The Executive Director must be tech savvy with a high degree of comfort using Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Zoom, and other online platforms, and will need to acquire facility in Charmhealth, our Electronic Health Record (EHR). The ED must be detail oriented, highly organized, and have the ability to manage multiple projects while remaining attentive to patient care and staff management.
Hyperbaric Vermont’s new ED will be honest, transparent and will have a collaborative leadership style. They will be a well‐rounded communicator both verbally and in writing and will have strong interpersonal skills and well‐honed listening skills. Finally, the ED is expected to have an awareness of the issues of systemic racism, gender oppression, sexual identity and equity across a wide range of identities. Experience working with diversity, equity, and inclusion is preferred.
Candidates must have demonstrated experience successfully leading and building organizations through times of growth. Experience with healthcare provision, wholistic healthcare, health and wellness, mental health is helpful.
3+ years leadership experience in nonprofit leadership management
Fiscal management experience including grant writing, donor solicitation and relations
Personnel management and supervision experience
Strategic planning, program development, assessment and performance management experience
Must be able to work at a desk and on a computer and be able to lift at least 35 pounds.
Location and Time Commitment
Based in Vermont, the ED will be an active presence at our treatment facilities in S. Burlington and Montpelier as well work as remotely where this is appropriate. Successful management of daily operations will entail becoming familiar with the operations of both treatment facilities as well as hands-on training in hyperbaric treatment and equipment use and maintenance. Engagement at both sites will be more extensive initially as this occurs. Team meetings generally occur via Zoom and conference calls.
This is a part-time (20 – 25 hours/week) position with an anticipated salary in the range of $32,000 – 38,000, ETO and a $2000 HSA.
