Lund seeks a strategic, supportive, and compassionate leader who can help us build on our success in providing comprehensive programs that strengthen families throughout Vermont. Our next leader will ensure Lund continues to make a meaningful and measurable impact that helps children thrive and empowers families to break cycles of poverty, addiction, and abuse.

  • Business and financial acumen to lead a 150-person, statewide nonprofit human services organization;

We are looking for a leader who has a combination of the following leadership attributes:

True Sense of Mission and Values – Committed to helping children thrive by empowering families to break cycles of poverty, addiction, and abuse; deeply believes in and models Lund’s values of compassion, integrity, collaboration, empathy, and respect

Business and Financial Acumen – Knows how a human services, nonprofit organization operates and understands the broader system of care; knowledgeable in current and able to anticipate and shape future policies, regulations, practices, trends, and technology affecting business; experience leading in challenging and dynamic moments; operational and financial experience to lead and manage a strong and stable organization.

Collaborative Connector – Able to connect people and ideas; community builder who can create and sustain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders; able to establish and cultivate strategic relationships and partnerships to increase the value and strengthen the position that Lund plays in the human services community; well-established relationships with Vermont’s elected officials, social services network and community leaders preferred.

Effective, Consistent Communicator – Able to motivate and inspire; effectively able to listen and communicate with clarity and empathy to wide and diverse audiences (including, but not limited to clients, staff, community members, donors, regulators, government leaders, volunteers, Board leadership); a talented speaker who can inspire and lead others to achieve common goals.

Emotional Intelligence – Recognizes personal strengths and weaknesses; able to show empathy, compassion, vulnerability, respect for others; collaborative and engages in open communication; recognizes how challenging human services work is and uses appropriate humor and joy to support staff; able to navigate difficult situations with diplomacy and tact.

Equity and Inclusion Focus – Recognizes the needs of diverse communities and develops equitable programs to meet those needs within the workplace and within the communities Lund serves; challenges systemic and individual bias, inequality, and intolerance; committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging; leads with authenticity and transparency; includes staff and community voices and ensures people are seen and heard.

Exceptional Decision Maker – Makes timely decisions based on an optimal mix of ethics, values, goals, facts, alternatives, risks, and judgments; demonstrates courage to make difficult but necessary decisions; uses tools effectively and at appropriate times; shows a good sense of timing related to decision making and follow through; balances external and internal dynamics; remains composed under pressure.

Experienced Team Builder – Can assemble and motivate management, staff, volunteers, the Board, other regional providers, government officials, and diverse communities to pursue common goals for all those served by Lund; able to delegate effectively, leverage the strengths of a team, act as a caring and supportive leader, encourages others to lead and do their best work.

Forward Thinker – Can anticipate large-scale and local changes that will affect the organization and its environment; able to lead the organization into the future and envision multiple potential scenarios/outcomes; able to interpret trends and design innovative and actionable strategies and plans based on future possibilities. Will develop a compelling and inspired vision based on Lund’s strategic plan to ensure Lund remains an innovative and impactful human services leader.

Fundraiser – Has established credibility in the community and experience raising money to support mission-driven work. Able to cultivate authentic donor relationships, establish partnerships, and lead successful fundraising and development efforts.

Experience:

  • Experience working within a human service, educational or nonprofit organization required, with a strong preference for experience working in Vermont
  • Senior leadership experience (10+ years preferred)
