North Country Animal League is seeking a full time dedicated and experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care, will have the ability to work with a team and independently and possess the necessary skills to assist in providing high-quality veterinary services to our shelter animals.

Responsibilities:

– Routine animal care including feeding, cleaning kennels, walking dogs
– Attend daily rounds to access the animals under our care
– Assist veterinarians and veterinary technician in routine examinations, surgeries, and dental procedures
– Have the ability to intake animals and assist with adoptions as needed
– Handle and restrain animals during procedures with care and compassion
– Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian and/or animal care manager
– Maintain accurate medical records for all patients
– Assist with community clinics (wellness vaccine/microchip clinics and community spay/neuter clinics)
– Ensure cleanliness and organization of the clinic and kennel areas

Experience:

– Veterinary assistant experience required
– Proficient in veterinary terminology and medical procedures
– Knowledge of pet care, including feeding, grooming, and exercise requirements
– Ability to handle and restrain animals safely and effectively including the ability to calm anxious or aggressive animals
– Experience with drawing blood and giving vaccines
– Understanding animal behavior principles
