Overview:

North Country Animal League is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Camp Counselors to lead our Humane Education Summer Camps season. The camp counselors will be responsible for coordinating, and implementing educational activities and workshops designed to foster compassion, empathy, and responsible stewardship towards animals and the environment in campers aged 5-12. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children, a passion for humane education, and strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

In collaboration with NCAL’s Programs Manager, implement age-appropriate curriculum and activities for campers aged 5-12, with a focus on animal welfare, environmental conservation, and ethical living.
Lead daily activities, workshops, and outdoor excursions, ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment for all participants.
Supervise and mentor up to 12 campers at a time with co-counselor, providing guidance and support as they explore topics related to humane education and compassionate living. Ensure that campers are managed in a way that does not interrupt the daily work flow of shelter operations.
Collaborate with camp staff and volunteers to coordinate logistics, manage resources, and maintain a positive camp atmosphere.
Serve as a positive role model for campers, promoting empathy, respect, and kindness towards animals and fellow participants.
Communicate regularly with camp organizers, parents, and guardians to provide updates on camp activities, participant progress, and any concerns or issues that may arise.
Ensure compliance with camp policies, procedures, and safety protocols at all times.
Assist with setup and cleanup of camp facilities and equipment as needed.
Foster a sense of community and teamwork among campers, encouraging cooperation, inclusivity, and mutual respect.
Participate in training sessions, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities as required.

Qualifications:

Previous experience working with children in a camp, educational, or recreational setting preferred.
Passion for humane education, animal welfare, and environmental conservation.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and connect with campers of varying ages and backgrounds.
Ability to plan and organize educational activities, workshops, and outdoor excursions effectively.
Flexibility, adaptability, and a positive attitude, with the ability to handle challenges and solve problems creatively.
CPR and First Aid certification (preferred).
A background check is required.

Schedule:

Contract duration: 9 weeks during the Summer 2025, starting on Monday June 30th- and ending Friday, August 15th
Part-time 35 hours per week
Camp hours: 8:30 to 3:00 PM Monday to Friday
