POSITION SUMMARY

Since 1994, NCAL has been committed to promoting compassionate and responsible relationships between humans and animals through our animal welfare and educational efforts. We are a growing organization and are seeking a Director of Development to lead our organization’s fundraising efforts. The Director of Development works with co-directors and staff to meet revenue goals through donor relations and fundraising campaigns, underwriting development and management, event planning and management and grant development and management. A key focus will be building partnerships to raise funds that support our lifesaving efforts and humane education programs. We are looking for a passionate, creative advocate, with strong communication and relationship management skills. This position will report to and collaborate closely with the Executive Director, oversee one additional staff member, and is a member of our leadership team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

-Responsible for development and implementation of all fundraising priorities.
-Develop and execute an annual development plan including grants management, fundraising and external communications and donor solicitation.
-Identify and cultivate relationships at all levels, including foundation, corporate, and individual donors.
-Implement cultivation and stewardship strategies that engage and recognize donors to strengthen relations with North Country Animal League.
-Solicit gifts for the annual fund, capital projects, and endowment.
-Oversee staff involved in donor communication data entry and gift processing.
-Implement major giving and planned giving fundraising strategies.
-Develop and maintain consistent messaging to all stakeholders through collaboration with the communications team and other departments.
-Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to create and implement a budget and fundraising plan.
-Provide leadership to the whole organization by understanding the mission and cultivating relationships with employees and volunteers.
-Manage annual fundraising events and promotional campaigns including planning, execution and evaluation.
-Manage grants and foundations applications, renewals and reporting including maintenance of calendar, filing and tracking systems
-Manage budget reporting for annual fundraising programs.
-Oversight of the organization’s external communications, including website, social media, public relations and promotions.
-Hire, train and supervise fundraising and communications staff and volunteers.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

-Bachelor’s degree in communications or business preferred.
-Five years of professional experience in fundraising, sales, nonprofit settings.
-Excellent communication skills, able to communicate complex ideas clearly, compellingly, and with emotional appeal.
-Experience with successful grant development and management.
-Experience with cultivating new and expanding existing donor relationships over time.
-Ability to construct, articulate, and implement an annual strategic development plan.
-Ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships.
-Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
-Superb leadership and interpersonal skills.
-Commitment for NCAL’s mission.
-Computer savvy: proficient in Google and Microsoft Office suites; ability to quickly learn and manage fundraising databases and other software.
-Genuine interest in animal welfare, non-profit work, and community-minded

Schedule and work environment

This position has the ability to be part-time or full-time depending on the candidate. The schedule typically operates within standard business hours at NCAL’s office on Monday-Friday, with some evening/weekend activities. Some remote work is possible. Some travel required for off-site meetings and trainings

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include health insurance contribution, paid time off, employee discounts, and employee assistance program are also offered for the full-time position.
