Job Description
Patient Choices Vermont (PCV) is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public about medical aid in dying.  PCV worked for more than ten years to achieve enactment of the law entitled Patient Choice at End of Life (Act 39) which enables terminally ill individuals who are capable of making their own medical decisions the option to request and receive medication that they can use to bring about a peaceful death if and when they so choose.  PCV educates Vermonters, out-of-state residents and the state’s health care providers about end-of-life choices and works to ensure that all individuals have access to the rights established by the law.

 

Patient Choices Vermont seeks an enthusiastic Program Manager who is passionate about end-of-life choice to perform program management services in support of the organization’s mission.  This position will report to PCV’s Executive Director and would be a three-quarter to full-time time position, with job flexibility.  The following are examples of current projects and responsibilities:

 

Primary Responsibilities

 

1.     Volunteer Program Management:

a.     Manage PCV’s Helpline volunteers and Wayfinder network, design and manage workflow and communication and data systems to ensure excellent client service, rewarding volunteer experiences and ongoing program improvement.

b.     Recruit, train and provide ongoing support of volunteers and coordinate their work in the field responding to inquiries regarding medical aid in dying and Act 39.

c.     Conduct ongoing evaluation of the program, keep Executive Director informed of successes and challenges, recommend and implement improvements as needed.

d.     Forecast future volunteer needs for the organization.

 

2.     Educational Events/Outreach:

a.     Plan and execute education events, including outreach to community groups as well as medical and hospice organizations.

b.     Organize speakers, locations, and marketing with support from PCV’s digital marketing consultant.

c.     Develop a schedule for conferences in which PCV should participate.

d.     Expand and develop relationships with collaborating organizations to leverage educational opportunities.

 

3.     PCV Systems and Communication:

a.     Manage communication with volunteer program.

b.     Manage sensitive organizational data and contribute to data analysis to support PCV programs.

c.     Maintain and grow PCV contact lists.

d.     Participate in website updating, email and social media communications.

 

4.     New Program Development:

a.     Work with PCV’s Executive Director and key board members to develop new programs aimed at education and ensuring access to medical aid in dying.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications

 

The Program Manager must have broad knowledge and experience in program and volunteer management and community engagement, preferably in a related area such as health, human services, educational programming or non-profit management.

 

Excellent skills in:

·      Written and oral communications, demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences

·      Demonstrated ability to synthesize daily work of programs to develop efficient, effective workflows and support systems

·      Training and supporting volunteers with a diversity of backgrounds from a strength-based perspective

·      Organizing and advancing multiple projects simultaneously

·      Demonstrated ability to embrace and adapt to changing environments and priorities

·      Effective public presentation and public speaking skills

·      Use of on-line media

·      Use of tools such as Microsoft 365 and Google Suite including Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Ability to learn and use Constant Contact, perform website editing and contact list maintenance

 

The Program Manager must be able to effectively work independently with minimal supervision from a home office, and must be available for regular on-line and in-person communications, meetings, and travel within Vermont.

 

Compensation:  Full-time salary range of $50,000-$70,000 dependent upon experience
