SerVermont is part of Vermont’s Agency of Human Services. The SerVermont mission is to promote, support, and recognize volunteerism and community service throughout the state. Members in our VISTA program serve at community organizations and State agencies throughout Vermont that help alleviate poverty and improve the lives of Vermonters. Members build capacity in a wide variety of programs including environment, education, agricultural and food security initiatives, and affordable housing and homelessness. In this role, you will plan monthly team trainings, conduct site visits, manage program communications, and provide support and resources for members throughout the year. The ideal candidate will have both strong people skills and strong organizational skills. This is a great opportunity for individuals looking for increased responsibility and further experience in program management, leadership, communications, event organizing, team building and a wide variety of other nonprofit skills. VISTA Leaders must have completed at least one year with VISTA or AmeriCorps State or served with the Peace Corps. In the Spring of 2025, SerVermont is pleased to host a new cohort of 6 Disaster Services VISTAs in positions with a specific focus on Flood Recovery. Members will engage in Disaster Preparation, Response, Recovery, and/or Mitigation in response to the recent Climate Disasters in Vermont. The VISTA Leader will work with SerVermont and other State partners on Emergency Management and Long-Term Disaster Services efforts. SerVermont has secured housing in Central Vermont for those relocating to serve.
The VISTA Leader will collaborate with the VISTA Program Manager to support SerVermont VISTA members during their year of service. Specific duties include data compilation and management, reporting, conducting site visits, planning training, compiling newsletters, leading social media efforts, and recruiting members. We are looking for a strong leader who is comfortable with a wide variety of roles including but not limited to mentor, recruiter, social media extraordinaire, facilitator, data organizer, distributer of friendly reminders, provider of resources, and event planner. The position also allows room for the Leader to take on additional initiatives unique to their skill set or passions.
