About the job:

Vermont Adult Learning is hiring a payroll and benefits coordinator to work from home in the state of Vermont, 24-40 hours per week. You will report to the Director of Human Resources and will be responsible for:

  • processing bi-weekly payroll
  • audit deliverables and reporting
  • managing employee requests related to payroll and benefits
  • supporting open enrollment
  • supporting the organization in a major software transition
  • suggest & implement process and technology improvements related to automation and digitization
  • bookkeeping and finance support

About you:

The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with a passion for offering stellar service, impeccable administrative skills, and the ability to remain patient and resilient during a period of organizational growth and change.

This is a mid-level role for someone with payroll, benefits, and compliance experience who can dive into supporting open enrollment and a major software implementation!

Vermont Adult Learning (VAL) is a non-profit with a mission to help Vermonters ages 16+ by creating personalized learning opportunities for students to achieve their goals in career, citizenship, and family life. Our direct service staff includes teachers and advisors who co-create personalized learning plans and help students with adult dipolmas, GEDs, and more. We have 7 learning centers in 7 of Vermont’s 14 counties, a remote administrative team, almost 100 employees, and an operating budget of $5M.

Requirements:

  • Associate’s Degree in Accounting with 2+ years professional experience in Finance or HR; or equivalent professional experience 5 years.
  • Understanding of payroll processes and HR/Financial compliance
  • Ability to work from home in Vermont with reliable internet during regular business hours
  • Basic comfort level with video conference platforms and accessing remote resources
  • Must possess strong interpersonal, oral, and written English communication skills, and strong organizational skills
  • Be excited about diverse, equitable, and inclusive work and learning environments

Successful national criminal background check and Vermont’s Mandated Reporter Law training
