Resident Engagement Coordinator 

Groundworks Collaborative, Brattleboro, Vermont

Do you believe in the healing power of community and want to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals exiting homelessness? Serving as the Resident Engagement Coordinator you will have the chance to help grow and support Groundworks Collaborative’s Permanent Supportive Housing community. In this role, you will provide life skills education, individual support, and community-building programming for 50 residents who live at 2 different housing sites in Brattleboro, Vermont. You’ll gain valuable skills and experience while learning about harm reduction, restorative practices, and housing first principles. This position is part of the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board AmeriCorps (VHCB AmeriCorps).  The VHCB AmeriCorps program supports the innovative dual-goal approach to creating stable affordable housing opportunities for Vermont residents while preserving the natural and working landscape.  VHCB AmeriCorps is a national service program that places members with non-profit housing or land and energy conservation organizations around the state.

Groundworks Collaborative’s mission is to work with people and systems creating solutions to end hunger and homelessness for all people in our region. The permanent Supportive Housing program is one of many programs that Groundworks provides to achieve that mission. The specific mission of the Permanent Supportive Housing program is to support individuals exiting homelessness in maintaining housing, accessing services, and developing independence. The goal of the Resident Engagement Coordinator position is to provide life skills education, individual support, and community-building programming to further the mission of the Permanent Supportive Housing program and Groundworks Collaborative in general.

Essential Functions:

·Provide regular transportation for residents to go shopping or attend recovery meetings

·Provide group and individual opportunities for life skills education such as cooking lessons, nutritional education, food planning, budgeting, resume writing, financial education, etc

·Provide regular opportunities for residents to exercise and be active. This should include opportunities that residents with limited mobility may participate in.

·Provide regular community activities such as community meals, gardening, crafting, movie nights, game nights, outings, etc.

· Support ongoing tenant councils and community meetings at each site.

·Produce a monthly newsletter for residents at each site providing useful information and a calendar of upcoming activities.

·Support residents in resolving neighbor disputes utilizing restorative practices.

· Track participation in community events and life skills education

·Participate in an Independent Service Project under the guidance of VHCB AmeriCorps

·Participate in all VHCB AmeriCorps Trainings, Service Days, Events, and Program Initiatives.

· Engage in professional and personal development activities and networking opportunities

Community Connections and Outreach Coordinator

Learn how to effectively operate a food shelf in a busy hunger relief program in Southeast Vermont, and help with community outreach efforts to reach more people in need at a time when food insecurity has increased significantly. As the Community Connections and Outreach Coordinator, you will support Foodworks’ guests in accessing food while participating in community-led efforts to destigmatize getting help and build food justice into our local food systems. This position is part of the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board AmeriCorps (VHCB AmeriCorps). 

The goal of this AmeriCorps position is to enhance the services within Foodworks, a community food shelf and project of Groundworks Collaborative. This position will help staff foster a strong Foodworks community through supporting volunteer engagement, forming connections with guests, and leading community building and education activities around food. The person who fills this role will be vital to the daily operations of the food shelf!

Essential Functions:

·Assist volunteers in the operation of the food shelf, including stocking shelves, checking guests in, and picking up food from the Vermont Foodbank and local grocery stores.

· Assist and connect with guests during food distribution open hours and over the phone.

·Pack and deliver food to Groundworks programs and partner organizations.

· Offer cooking and nutrition demos using food shelf produce.

·Connect guests with resources, including 3SquaresVT, other local food shelves and meal sites, and other Groundworks programs.

·Participate in monthly Groundworks all staff meetings and Foodworks program meetings.

·Support community outreach efforts including participating in food drives, tabling in the community, and maintaining and fostering new connections with local businesses, groceries, farms, and nonprofits

·Participate in an Independent Service Project under the guidance of VHCB AmeriCorps

·Participate in all VHCB AmeriCorps Trainings, Service Days, Events, and Program Initiatives.

·Engage in professional and personal development activities and networking opportunities.

 

Positions begins September 9th, 2024 and ends August 8th, 2025.

These positions are Full Time: Requires 1,720 hours for an average of 40 hours per week for 47 weeks. Member will receive a living allowance of $30,000 (pre-tax) for the service term. Member will receive an education award of $7,395 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service.
