Common Good Vermont is keeping things cooking this summer with a sizzling lineup of webinars and events! Join us for:
- June 5 | 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Designing and Executing an Impactful Executive Director Performance Evaluation
So much of a nonprofit’s success rests on the skill of its leader. Hiring, supporting, and evaluating the Executive Director is a primary responsibility of the Board of Directors. One strategy to support and retain the Executive Director is through an annual, thorough, well-planned, and transparent performance evaluation. A strong evaluation process builds trust between the Board and the Executive Director creating consensus on priority activities, relevant data, leadership competencies, and areas for growth. This interactive workshop will demystify the evaluation process, explaining timeframes, Board roles, data collection approaches, and a framework for gathering and communicating the results. - June 11 | 10:00 – 11:30 AM: Financial Oversight: A Team Effort for Board and Staff
The Board has fiduciary responsibility for the nonprofits and needs a strong financial leader on the staff side to prepare timely, accurate data and ensure systems and controls are in place. It’s a partnership. What information do board members need to carry out this role effectively, and what should they be looking for? How do a Finance Committee and finance staff collaborate to build and maintain effective financial oversight?
Find out with Denise Danyow and Elizabeth Redmond of Gallagher, Flynn’s Client Accounting Services group, providing finance and accounting services in fractional, project and temporary roles. - July 10 | 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Fundraising for Small Organizations
Feeling overwhelmed by fundraising? Are you a new Executive Director or Board member looking to gain fundraising skills? Are fundraising tasks always at the bottom of your to-do list? If you answered yes to any of these, this workshop is for you! - July 16 | 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Operate Intentionally to Grow Sustainably
Growth can be exciting and is often a major goal for mission driven organizations and their funders, as they seek to expand their impact and solve critical societal challenges. Yet many growing organizations find themselves facing similar internal challenges, as the operational practices that met their needs when they were small begin to fall short when faced with growth. Despite thriving by many measures – with expanding budgets, staff, and programs – growing organizations often find themselves grappling with decreasing effectiveness and increasing staff burnout and turnover.
This session, designed for EDs and staff responsible for managing operations (finance, facilities, technology, data, risk, internal communication, and human resources), aims to help organizations that are growing or planning to grow avoid common pitfalls and build a people-centered operations foundation that supports sustainable organizational growth. - Save the Dates: State of the Sector Nonprofit Listening Tour
