Morning Breakout Sessions
Why do a strategic plan?
Facilitated by Sarah Henshaw
In this session, participants will be guided through a participatory discussion of the various outputs and reasons an organization might undertake a strategic plan – from a revised mission and vision statement to a set of decision-making tools. Participants will leave this session with ideas on why they might undertake a strategic planning process and how they might use it in their operations.
A Blueprint for Tomorrow: Navigating Change in Our Organizations and Communities
Facilitated by Matt Harrington
In this session, participants will be provided with a practical framework to navigate and lead change within communities, focusing on understanding different community segments, managing the emotional impact of change, and implementing strategic change efforts. Participants will explore the Change Bell Curve to identify and influence key groups, delve into the Loss Cycle to manage emotional responses, and apply the Change Formula to ensure change initiatives are successful and sustainable.

In this session, participants will be encouraged to chat with other nonprofits about their concerns, stumbling blocks, and successes along the strategic planning path. Participants will learn from each other, make connections, and grow their confidence to meet the challenges that come with establishing and executing strategic plans.
Afternoon Breakout Sessions
How do we use a strategic plan?
Facilitated by Sarah Henshaw
In this session, participants will be asked to consider how an organization might use a strategic plan – from infusing values into systems and practices to using priorities and goals to make operational, financial, and programmatic decisions. Participants will discuss different ways to incorporate strategic plans into existing operations through an interactive session that includes a case study. Participants will leave this session with various approaches to integrating a strategic plan into everyday work.
A Blueprint for Tomorrow: Mastering The Three Phases of Strategic Planning
Facilitated by Matt Harrington
In this session, participants will be guided through the three essential phases of strategic planning, from gathering data and analyzing the current state to crafting a compelling vision and actionable plan. By following a structured approach, grounded in the Change Formula, participants will learn how to navigate the complexities of change, ensuring that their initiatives are not only implemented but also sustained over time.
