Common Good Vermont is pleased to share this event hosted by Nonprofit Financial Commons.

A nonprofit budget should be more than a spreadsheet that gets approved once a year. It can be one of your organization’s most powerful opportunities for making (or revising) strategic decisions, understanding financial capacity, and preparing for the uncertainty that permeates our operating environments even in the best of times. At its best, it can prepare a board and staff at every level to identify and address financial opportunities and risks, making the whole organization more nimble and productive.

This course takes a practical, visionary approach to budgeting, helping nonprofit leaders move beyond simply balancing the numbers to using the budget to answer bigger questions: What can we afford to invest in? What does it really cost to deliver our mission? How much financial cushion do we need? Which revenue opportunities make sense? And when should we change course to optimize impact?

Across three sessions, you’ll explore how to build financial literacy along with a more inclusive budgeting process, connect financial decisions to strategy, communicate financial information effectively, and use budgets throughout the year to strengthen your organization’s long-term financial health.

Dates: October 27, October 29, and November 3, 2026, 1:30–3:30 PM ET (online)
