Overview of Position

Orchard Valley Waldorf School is seeking a long-term substitute to cover our Grades Front Office Administrator who will be on parental leave from April through December 2025. The Grades School Front Office Administrator is responsible for ensuring that the daily operations of the Grades School run smoothly.  The long-term Grades School Front Office Administrator substitute will support and uphold established policies and practices, maintain our Front Office, and be responsible for a wide variety of tasks as the first point of contact with Grade School children, faculty, parents, and community members within a busy and dynamic school environment. Communication (phone, email, direct) and coordination with adults are balanced in the care of/for children in need of first aid or a quiet time out of the classroom.

The ideal candidate will have the capacity to multitask in a fast-paced school environment. The ability to maintain a professional, friendly, and welcoming countenance at all times is essential. This position involves working indoors seated for much of the day, but candidates must also be prepared to work outside for periods of time in changing weather conditions.

During the summer months, this person will spend time supporting our other programs, including Sweet Clover Nursery, Farm, and Summer Camp.

OVWS Description

OVWS is a small, rural school set on a beautiful 55-acre campus in the heart of Vermont. We are a Waldorf school currently providing curriculum from infancy, at our year-round Sweet Clover Nursery child care, through Grade 8. Specialty classes include Handwork, Woodworking, Music, Movement, Eurythmy, and On the Land, an outdoor education program. Our Grace Farm campus sits on one of the upper branches of the Winooski River. Our students help care for goats, sheep, chickens, and gardens as part of our impulse to deepen our connection to the natural world around us.

Our teachers and administration are expected to be working with the children and land stewardship at the center with an explicit commitment to engaging in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion work both in themselves and as a faculty/staff body.

This position is located at our Grace Farm campus in East Montpelier, 8 miles from Montpelier, Vermont’s capital. It’s a small town with big city amenities – a lively arts and music scene, great restaurants, and an active community life.

Qualifications

High School diploma;
Two years of experience in an administrative environment;
Experience and comfort working with children;
Good computer skills and working knowledge of Google Suite; experience with educational software desired;
Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills;
Flexible, detail-oriented, personable, positive, and calm demeanor;
Natural desire to be in service to others;
Experience and comfort working with minor medical emergencies (blood, vomit, illness etc);
Interest in Waldorf philosophy and working principles;
Ability to follow instructions and carry out tasks in a timely manner; and
An interest in and commitment to the success of the school

Compensation

This is a temporary, hourly, full-time position.  Compensation, based on education and experience, ranges from $19.80 – 22.80 per hour.
