The Assistant Director of Buildings and Grounds is pivotal to the physical and environmental sustainability of our campus. The Assistant Director will work independently and collaboratively with the Director of Buildings and Grounds and Chief Operating Officer to oversee a broad range of responsibilities—from campus safety and maintenance to green construction and energy efficiency. The Assistant Director’s efforts will be focused on ensuring Sterling College’s infrastructure is safe, functional, and aligned with the College’s operational goals.

Key  Responsibilities:

– Perform maintenance of all facilities and equipment, including plumbing, septic systems, and large farm equipment.
– Coordinate and schedule contracted services for repairs, as needed.
– Maintain fire, mechanical, electrical, and safety control systems.
– Respond to and complete staff and student work requests.
– Help develop and manage a preventative maintenance program for the physical plant and equipment.
– Work with the Director to oversee and perform construction and remodeling projects, ensuring compliance and quality.
– Respond to physical plant emergencies and coordinate emergency response within the maintenance team.

Required Qualifications:

– Demonstrated experience in carpentry, with basic proficiency in other trades (eg. plumbing, painting, etc.).
– Leadership and team development skills.
– Basic computer proficiency.
– Availability for emergency response some evenings and weekends as necessary.
– Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

– 3 plus years of maintenance and/or construction experience.
– Previous supervisory experience.
– Knowledge in heating and air conditioning.
