ABOUT SHARe
SHARe welcomes, supports, and protects asylum-seekers and refugees across the Upper Connecticut River Valley of Vermont and New Hampshire, through the collective efforts of volunteers, donors, organizations, and businesses. Together, we help rebuild lives that have been torn apart, as we build enriched, thriving communities.
Founded in 2020, SHARe is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, funded by generous individuals, community foundations, and regional grants. SHARe has never received federal funding. At this critical time in history, we are investing in our first paid position – an experienced leader to strengthen our volunteer- and community-based infrastructure for growth and sustainability.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The new Executive Director will advance SHARe’s mission and goals, providing strategic and operational guidance at this time of transition and uncertainty, and ensuring the development and execution of all programs, services, functions, policies, and procedures of the organization, in collaboration with the Board of Directors. HOURS
Full time (32-40 hours per week), accommodating team and community meetings and events, as well as occasional response to urgent newcomer needs. Some evenings and weekends will be required.
COMPENSATION
$75,000-$100,000 annual compensation package.
LOCATION: UPPER CONNECTICUT RIVER VALLEY OF VERMONT AND NEW HAMPSHIRE
SHARe welcomes newcomers across many communities, centered around Lebanon and Hanover, New Hampshire and White River Junction and Norwich, Vermont. The ED will reside locally and work from home, with substantial time in the community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Advance SHARe’s mission and vision as the foundation for setting priorities and making decisions, by creating a positive environment of teamwork, curiosity, resilience and commitment to welcoming, protecting and supporting newcomers.
WELCOMING OPERATIONS
Newcomer accompaniment and delivery of services:
Oversee and coach team leaders accompanying newcomers on their path.
Support recruitment, training, professional development, and appreciation of volunteers, staff, and community partners.
Define and reinforce guidelines, procedures, and policies in collaboration with the Board.
Monitor SHARe’s capacity to welcome and support new families and individuals.
Respond effectively to unanticipated circumstances and urgent needs that may occur due to the nature of welcoming work.
SHARe team and partner communications:
Ensure regular, positive, honest communication across the organization to empower team members at all levels.
Actively engage board members, executive leaders, pro bono professional team members, and committee leads in the ongoing development of SHARe
Develop and maintain communication systems and practices to streamline information sharing and decision-making.
Track and communicate needs, plans, and accomplishments clearly within the organization and with community partners.
Participate in the ongoing development of website and media messaging and content, including maintenance of a shared calendar.
ORGANIZATIONAL ADMINISTRATION
Collaborate with SHARe leadership to advance the sustainability of the organization.
Develop and oversee the organization-wide budget and in-kind resource use.
Support and ensure board and committee oversight of SHARe administrative functions:
Financial management
Human resources
Development and fundraising
Insurance coverage
Legal guidance
Information management and reporting
Track and facilitate support of immigration cases for all SHARe newcomers; inform newcomers of changes in legal status.
Develop and coordinate selected fundraising and grant writing efforts.
OUTREACH
Help define, refine, and manage external messaging to clarify and engage the community in SHARe’s vision and mission.
Be an advocate and spokesperson in public, in organizational partnerships, and with financial supporters.
Ensure SHARe’s representation in collaborative and strategic networks.
Advocate for the needs of newcomers to Vermont and New Hampshire and for the communities who welcome them.
QUALIFICATIONS
Comfort in a transformative leadership role at a time of great transition.
Expertise in program development and leadership, non-profit business management, project management of complex initiatives, administration, fundraising, and advocacy.
Experience managing teams and building group synergy. Demonstrated collaborative leadership success. Commitment to inclusivity, involving underrepresented people and perspectives.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including comfort with public speaking.
Masters Degree or equivalent in nonprofit administration or related human services field preferred
5-10 years of work related to the field of community organizing, social work, youth and family services, or other health and human service delivery.
High energy, positive person who is organized, creative, and flexible, committed to building community and a sense of belonging for everyone.
Commitment to understanding the challenges and gifts of displaced immigrant newcomers, and the evolving landscape in Vermont and New Hampshire and nationally.
