ARC Rutland Area is a very small 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with an annual average budget of just over $100K. Our mission is to advocate for the right of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families to be regarded as valued citizens with the same entitlements as non-disabled individuals, including the right to lifelong opportunities for personal growth and full participation in the community. Position Overview

Position Title: ARC- Rutland Area Board Member

General Description:
Together with other members of the board, each member is legally responsible to provide strong fiduciary oversight of all the activities of the organization to ensure ARC is run in an ethical, legal, and prudent manner. Major functions the Board is responsible for include: policy, fundraising and resource development, public and community relations, marketing, finance, personnel, and strategic planning and evaluation.

Individual Board Member Responsibilities:

1. Become fully acquainted with the organization by knowing its history, mission, services, finances, and relationships to other agencies, etc.
2. Prepare for, attend, and participate in scheduled (monthly) board meetings of the organization as well as any occasional committee or special meetings needed
3. Review and understand the organization’s monthly financial statements
4. Represent the interest of the organization to the community.
5. Share your abilities, talents, and knowledge with other Board members.
6. Actively communicate your knowledge of the organization to your friends, acquaintances and the larger community.
7. Attend ARC events to increase your knowledge and awareness of the organization’s activities and the people it serves.
8. Financially contribute according to one’s means to ensure 100% Board support.
9. Actively participate in promoting financial support for the organization.
10. Know and follow the organization’s bylaws, policies, and procedures
11. Contribute to making board service a satisfying and rewarding experience for
self and for peers.

Time Requirement:
Attend monthly board meeting from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM on 4th Wednesday of the month
Attend ARC events as much as possible; minimum of one bi-monthly.
Help with fundraising for the organization; selling event or raffle tickets, doing petitions, etc. as decided by board.
