JOB DESCRIPTION: The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center Advancement and Communications Manager

The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center (CSSC) in West Rutland Vermont seeks a part-time development and communications specialist to grow its existing fundraising program and enhance its communications outreach, in support of its art, culture, education, residency and community-focused programs. Based on its strategic planning process and recent fundraising assessment, the Board and Staff of the CSSC realize the organization is ready to take the next step toward more robust and expansive support.

POSITION SUMMARY: This will be the first Advancement position for CSSC and will join the full-time Director and part-time support position, along with an active engaged board. The Advancement and Communications Manager (A&CM) will have the primary responsibility for growing the existing annual fund program and related, supportive communications work. While the Executive Director is deeply involved in Major Donor work, the A&CM will provide support for that while taking responsibility for community, mail, digital, event and outreach fundraising, including prospecting and planning. This includes managingthe donor database and donor acknowledgements,in partnership with the Administrative Assistant. This job can be filled as a hybrid, in-office and remote, position providing there is adequate time onsite to understand, engage in, and relate to the work of CSSC; presence on-site for events and donor meetings is necessary.


•Develop and conduct the strategy, creation,implementation, and evaluation ofthe organization’s annual fund campaigns, including direct mail and online appeals, reports, and other relevant correspondence.

•Support the Executive Director in implementing the 5-year Strategic Plan and related Capital Campaign for Strategic Plan goals and endowment growth.

•Ensure effective and efficient utilization of donor database functions including data entry, data quality, cash and in-kind donations, production of reports, online donations, and recurring gifts.

•Collaborate on updating and streamlining all fundraising components of the website and other electronic communication.

•Maintain database profile records appropriate for cultivation activities, solicitor actions, appeals, and segmentation.

•Create strong donor cultivation, prospecting, segmenting, acknowledgement, recognition and stewardship.

•Provide timely reports for internal and external reflection of CSSC’s fundraisingresults.

•Manage events, sponsorships and partnerships, including working with volunteers, for any fundraising events and activities in support of CSSC

•Collaborate with the Director and others to enhance the online presence, including website and social media.

•Support the Board in their fundraising efforts.

•Participate in overall planning, trouble-shooting, and communication related to CSSCprograms and community presence, as is necessary with a very small staff.


•Bachelor’s Degree with minimum of two years relevant experience.

•Proven experience in database entry, analysis, reporting and some project management.

•Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

•Preferred proficiency in donor management software,or other database or CRM experience.

•Appreciation and enthusiasm for CSSC programs, site and goals.

•Ability to initiate projects, be flexible, and work within a team environment.

•Ability to prioritize appropriately when facing multiple responsibilities and tasks.

•Ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral.
